I'm a PhD student in media & communication. My research focus is on the nexus of organizations (i.e., mostly businesses), the media, and public policy regarding scientific issues, primarily concerning health and the environment. I'm just beginning to work on my dissertation, on organic foods.

Personally, I try to live as sustainably as I can in balance with my a) love of pretty things and b) grad student budget.  Not having a car is a big help in that direction; I'm lucky to live in a very walkable city, with public transportation options available when I need them. I hope my post-PhD life ends up being in a similar sort of environment.

I live with a cat (a female named Fred, because I am a big geek) and the never-ending pressure of academic life. Oddly enough, I'm pretty happy this way for now, at least as long as I manage to make room for myself (and for giving Fred the attention she deserves) for at least a few minutes every day.

Balance in all things is the key. Sounds easy, but it's so not, on the personal or global level.

Born in the Midwest, I've lived in Australia, Germany, a few different places in the US, and spent most of my adult life in Italy. People can never tell where I'm from based on my voice or accent.
